_ABOUT OUR DOJO
Shaolin Self Defense Centers is a family-run and operated business that
began back in 1992. It is a place where respect is earned, learned and
given. Our main goal is to bring our students to their fullest training
potential. Each student is trained as an individual and evaluated on
their own level-not what the other students in class can do. Upon
entering the dojo, you will be greeted either by one of the owners or
one of their family members.
INSTRUCTORS The school is run by Sensei Ray and his wife, Lori. Sensei Ray began training at the age of seven. He studied the styles of Show Da Khan, Tae Kwon Do and Tang Su Do. At the age of fifteen, he walked into a kempo school and never looked back. He continues to train under his original kempo instructor. He also trains in kickboxing and was the USKBA Super-light Heavyweight champion. Currently, he holds the rank of 4th Degree black belt.
Sensei Lori, his wife, began training at the age of seventeen. She teaches the fitness kickboxing classes and children classes. Currently, she holds the rank of 2nd Degree black belt.
All of our instructors start out as students and work their way up through the ranks to become assistants and eventually full instructors. We pride ourselves on the training and knowledge that all our instructors maintain. To be a full instructor, you must meet the following requirements: assist in classes for three years, hold the rank of at least 1st Degree Black Belt, have had a sanctioned, full contact fight (whether it be kickboxing or MMA) and be over 18 years of age. Junior assistants must meet the following requirements: hold an advance rank and be at least 15 years of age. A junior instructor assists in class, does not teach. We do not have children teaching children.
